The Game Masters Guild is a Discord-based TTRPG community focused on immersive, story-driven D&D 5E campaigns—run by professional Dungeon Masters using Foundry VTT, Avrae, and a host of digital tools. We host ongoing games, one-shots, arena battles, and support a thriving network of players and DMs alike.
We occasionally post open sign-ups for new campaigns or one-shots. Keep an eye on the │announcements or
│looking-for-game channels for availability. Most long-term campaigns are by application, and some are Patreon-supported.
Most campaigns are DM’d by Alex, the Guild’s founder and lead Dungeon Master, with 5+ years of professional DM experience and a deep love for immersive, visual storytelling. Occasionally, other trusted DMs host side games or events.
We primarily run a refined version of The Lost Mine of Phandelver (currently on version 9.0), complete with homebrew twists, player-driven story arcs, and thematic expansions. We also run experimental games, elemental arena battles, and plan to expand into other published modules and original content.
Foundry VTT – Dynamic maps, tokens, automation, and immersive effects
Discord – Voice chat, scheduling, and out-of-character communication
Avrae – For play-by-post automation and dice rolls
D&D Beyond – Character creation and management
HeroForge – Custom miniatures and character portraits
Patreon – Optional support with perks and early access
Each group's campaign sessions are typically once a month around 7:30 PM CST. Dates are voted on in advance via Discord polls. If two or more players can't make it, we’ll reschedule or run a one-shot for available players.
We have a few tweaks to standard 5E rules for faster gameplay and strategic depth:
Crits = Max damage on half the dice, roll the rest
Flanking = +2 to melee attacks when properly positioned
Potions = Bonus action to drink (roll), full action for full heal
Weapon Swap = 5ft of movement to stow/draw
Death Saves = Rolled privately to the DM
Inspiration = Can be stacked, given to allies, and be spent to aid others
Full rules are posted in │rules-and-house-rules.
Be prepared (know your abilities, have a plan for your turn)
Stay engaged (both in and out of combat)
Respect each other (we have clear community standards and safety tools)
Collaborate with your party and the DM to tell a great story
We use Lines and Veils to establish clear boundaries around sensitive topics (see │content-warnings). Themes include:
Violence and combat
Moral dilemmas
Betrayal, greed, and redemption But we draw hard lines against things like sexual violence, real-world bigotry, or non-consensual scenes.
Please let us know ahead of time. If only one player is missing, someone can “pilot” your character. If two or more are absent, we’ll reschedule or run a one-shot. If you're going to be late, just post in the chat!
We use Point Buy
All official D&D Beyond sourcebooks are allowed
Fill out the full D&D Beyond character sheet, including:
Physical traits (height, eyes, age)
Personal traits (ideals, bonds, flaws)
Background details (allies, enemies, goals)
The more you give the DM, the more your story gets woven into the world.
Exploration & Mystery in ancient ruins and long-lost mines
Conflict & Resolution with factions, bandits, and rivals
Betrayal, Loyalty, & Redemption through NPC choices and player impact
Moral Choices that may alter alignments or divine favor
Yes! Use the in-game Foundry chat for character actions, thoughts, or side scenes. We'll check in with your character after the spotlight moment resolves.
You can always DM Alex, or use the │ask-the-dm channel for general questions. We’re always happy to help with mechanics, backstory questions, or tech setup.
